 The Purposes of Individual Therapy

No matter who you are and what your circumstances are, life is hard. As the world gets busier and your responsibilities grow, things can become overwhelming. You may feel you are losing the ability to keep up. You may notice yourself lacking the motivation to do the things that used to bring you joy. People around you may notice a change in your demeanor and overall attitude. These may be signs that it will be beneficial to start therapy.

However, therapy is not only for those in crisis. More and more people are beginning to see therapy as a preventative measure. A way to ground yourself and refocus so everyday stresses do not grow into a crisis. Look at your mental health the same way you would look at your physical health. Each year people go in to get their physical. Even if your life does not feel out of control therapy can still be very beneficial. Feel free to contact us to learn more about whether therapy could be effective for you.

The Process of Individual Therapy

When you come in for your first appointment you will meet your therapist. The first session will primarily be a time for you and your therapist to get to know each other, for you to introduce why you are seeking therapy and to discuss a plan for treatment. From there, you and your therapist will work together to work through your problem. Throughout the process, you and your therapist will work to explore and understand you. As you gain understanding into yourself and how you deal with issues like stress, conflict, relationships, you will begin to see how you can better manage your life.
